11/27/2020 UNAC denounces the targeted assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, a top nuclear scientist and Trump’s approving Tweet. This confirms the U.S. and Israeli determination to sabotage every possible effort for peace or normalization of relations with Iran or in the region
Again and again Iran scientists have been targeted. More than 5 scientists were assassinated in past years. The targeted assassinations and the economic sanctions are a continuing effort to deprive developing countries of scientific capabilities and development.
The multi-pronged attack involved at least one explosion and small fire by several assailants.
It is understood internationally to prevent any effort to revive diplomacy with Iran and go back to the nuclear agreement. It is intended to heighten the rage and create excuses for continued U.S. military occupation of the entire region.
President Trump’s waning weeks at the White House saw him cloistered with his top National Security team of warmakers considering whether to launch yet another round of deadly missile strikes against Iran while the ongoing U.S. imperial war against Syria saw multiple U.S.-Israeli-orchestrated missile strikes across Syria ranging from its border areas adjacent to the Israel-occupied Syrian Golan Heights to the outskirts of Damascus.
Simultaneously, Trump and Co. have recently feigned a U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan aimed at casting his departing image as a “man of peace!” Many Democrats have criminally spoken out against any withdrawal. The antiwar movement must support complete withdrawal of all troops and “contractors,” aka mercenaries, regardless of which party is in power.
Trump’s endless war on Iran
Once again, Trump – as before him, the Obama/Biden Administration – claims with zero evidence that Iran is enriching nuclear material to produce a nuclear weapon that would/could be launched against the U.S. or Israel. Iran’s nuclear enrichment plan was a low-level enrichment that could be used for nuclear power but not for weapons.
Four months ago, the U.S. and Israeli governments barely concealed their role in the massive July 2 bombing of Iran’s nuclear research facilities at Natanz.
A decade earlier, the U.S.- Israeli cyberwar attack on Iran obliterated nearly 1,000 operating centrifuges at Natanz – near the site of the July 2020 explosion and fire. Around the same time, Israeli proxies murdered 5 Iranian nuclear scientists.”
Thus the U.S. imperial war machine again organizes death and destruction in the Middle East while the corporate media promotes the myth that “civilized leaders,” i.e., Trump, Obama and Bush, are the purveyors of justice, freedom and the world’s “national security”, while those others are branded terrorist, religious zealot or “weapons of mass destruction” threatening tyrant.
The periodic U.S. wars against Iran have nothing to do with “humanitarian” concerns or world security and everything to do with the continued imperial U.S. military and economic domination of the Middle East. The 1953 CIA coup in Iran removed the democratically elected government of Mohammed Mossadegh and replaced it with the quarter century U.S.-imposed dictatorship of Shah Reza Pahlavi. After the Iranian people rebelled and installed a new government in 1979, the U.S.-orchestrated and financed 1980-88 Iran-Iraq War took the lives of a million Iranians and 800,000 Iraqis. Two U.S. wars against Iraq took the lives of over 1.5 million Iraqis.
On July 14, 2015, Iran, under a crippling U.S.-led and European sanctions campaign, negotiated the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with six major world powers – U.S., Russia, U.K., China, Germany, and France. With zero proof of Iranian intentions to build a nuclear weapon, the accords required Iran to substantially reduce or destroy much their uranium-enriching capacity. In exchange, the signers agreed to substantially lift the deadly U.S. and European sanctions on Iran that had reduced the economy and currency of the world’s fourth leading oil producer and region’s most viable state to catastrophic levels.
Two years later, Donald Trump withdrew the U.S. from the JCPOA and reinstated unilateral sanction of global scope on Iran. Undoubtedly, a key U.S. corporate oil monopoly objective in imposing U.S. sanctions on Iran was to remove high quality Iranian oil from world fossil fuel markets to protect the petrodollar.
Afghanistan: U.S. Out Now!
Meanwhile, the news is that the Trump administration will ‘withdraw’ troops from Afghanistan. After 19 years and $2 trillion in Pentagon spending; after deploying more than 120,000 U.S. troops at the high point of the war, half of them mercenaries; after more than 460,000 civilians killed directly or indirectly, 2,400 U.S. troops dead, 55,000 dead among the U.S.-trained and financed Afghan Army forces and hundreds of thousands wounded; after dropping the largest non-nuclear weapon ever used on the Afghan plains, the war continues.
After 19 years, some tens of thousands of U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan along with an equal number of mercenaries and “contractors” organized by enterprising U.S. corporations in the business of death and destruction for profit. What will the removal of a few thousand troops accomplish? Will their numbers be rebalanced by additional contractors or moved to other “hotspots”? Of course, we want to see troops leave Afghanistan, but will Trump’s move make a difference?
The antiwar movement must remain on full alert because the incoming Biden / Harris Administration is full of the same war hawks who are responsible for US wars and military threats including US bombings and troops in Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Africom forces throughout Africa, sanctions on countries around the world and growing military threats against China. This was the policy of the Obama / Biden Administration.
- We demand U.S. Hands off Iran! End the U.S./Israeli attacks!
- We demand that ALL US troops and mercenaries and contractors leave Afghanistan!
- We demand the immediate and total withdrawal of all U.S. forces from the Middle East, Africa, South America and everywhere. U.S.Out Now!
- We support the unconditional right of all poor and oppressed nations to self-determination. This includes their right to self-defense.
- We stand 100 percent opposed to all U.S. and imperialist sanctions. Economic sanctions are acts of war against poor and oppressed nations.
- We stand 100 percent opposed to all nuclear weapons and call for the total disarmament of all nuclear nations beginning with the U.S., the world’s greatest nuclear power and the only nation ever to launch nuclear weapons.
- We demand the U.S. war budget be cut and the money used for human needs in the U.S. and around the world.
- We support the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. We demand an end to ALL U.S. aid, military, economic and political, to apartheid Israel! We support the right of all Palestinians to return to their homeland.
