Syria Support Movement Statement, published on syriasupportmovement.org, December 3, 2024
The Syria Support Movement stands with the people of Syria and its democratically-elected government, led by President Bashar al-Assad, in the face of the current aggression by terrorist mercenaries of HTS, the latest iteration of Al Qaeda, and by the Free Syrian Army, both of which are foot soldiers of the USA, NATO, and Turkiye.
The terrorists, who are overwhelmingly non-Syrian, are neither rebels nor democrats. They represent only the interests of the USA and Israel, and their supporters in NATO (including Turkiye), who have been waging a long war and a brutal campaign of coercive economic measures since 2011 to overthrow the secular and socialist Syrian government and to turn Syria into a failed state, as they did to Libya. For the USA, the conflict in Syria has several purposes: to extend its domination over West Asia; to help its Israeli proxy complete its genocidal colonial project; and to put pressure on Russia, which is winning the NATO-instigated conflict in Ukraine. The terrorist offensive began – not coincidentally- the day after a ceasefire was arranged by the USA in Lebanon and represents a dangerous widening of the war in West Asia, which could engulf the entire region, and could lead to WW3.
We are confident, however, that the heroic Syrian Arab Army, with help from its allies in Russia, Iran, Hezbollah as well as other branches of the Axis of Resistance, will regroup to defeat this latest aggression and drive the western-backed terrorists right out of the country. Syria will once again exert its sovereignty over every square centimeter of its national territory, including the eastern third of Syria, currently occupied by US forces and their Kurdish separatist henchmen, and the northern part of the country, currently occupied by Turkiye.
And leave us not forget that Syria has been the longest and most consistent supporter of Palestine since the Nakba. Hence, those who support Palestine should likewise support Syria’s pro-Palestinian government. Meanwhile, from the standpoint of the enemies of Palestine and Syria, not to mention Lebanon, Iran, Iraq and Yemen, this is one war against the indigenous peoples of the Middle East.
People who live in NATO countries should exert pressure on their governments and elected officials to end NATO’s proxy war in Syria, remove the coercive economic measures that have impoverished the Syrian people, and restore full diplomatic relations with the legitimate government of Syria in Damascus.
Long live Syria!
